Question by g: Can you lose weight “fast” while weight training?
Which is better: to lose 4 pounds a week while weight training or 2 pounds a week with weight training or does it make a difference? Why is it that during the weekend I can gain a few pounds over a course of a weekend when I barely overeat (I mean, typically I eat 1500 calories, but if I increase it to 2000-2500 over the weekend, I gain 3 pounds!)…I thought you only gain weight if you eat 3500 calories over (oh yeah, and I’m average weight for my height)

wellll it’s complicated, for the average person a 1500 calorie surplus at the end of the week translates to about one lb of weight gain. this can fluctuate to a great degree depending on metabolism diet and a host of other things. if you weight train at the same time, you will be gaining muscle, and probably consuming more calories. it is very hard to gain muscle and lose weight. the easiest way to lose only weight, if that is your goal, would be low intensity cardio and eating alot of fruits and vegetables while cutting back on fat and meat. hope that helps!
In order for you to build muscles, you must consume more
calories than what your body burns. If you want to burn fat,
you must burn more calories than what you are taking in.
It is really that simple. The truth is you can NOT build
maximum muscle and lose maximum fat at the same time
because they are two conflicting goals.
The only exception to this rule is if you are an absolute
beginner or you are taking ste-roids. However, you can
build muscle without gaining body-fat or at least minimizing
the amount of fat gained. You just can’t get maximum
fat loss while trying to build muscle too.
My main point is stick with just one goal. Either aim for
fat loss or muscle gain. Don’t try to do both.
